This Meth Addict Had The Face Of A Supermodel, But Now...
21.5 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battle a substance use disorder this year and getting out is not a walk in the park.
Life is not easy. The battle of life is, in most cases, fought uphill and not all of us are equipped with the right set of tools. We're all had to face real struggles from the day that we were born. While we all live differently and do not share the same history and environment, it's hard to say that you had it easy, because no matter who you are, you had your share of sand kicked in your face.
Doing drugs just to keep your feelings (mainly stress, sadness, and gulit) will only make things worse, and for many, it's all downhill from there.
What is so scary with drug addictions, is the fact that this is a slippery slope that could happen to anyone.
Matthew Medlin is one of those people who you would never assume to be a drug abuser, due to his appearance.
He was known as the "meth head who is looking like a model." Matthew has been on and off meth many times, and his story is heartbreaking.
Just 32 years of age, his life has been a roller coaster, and every day for him was just worse than the day before.
With his life spiraling out of control, this handsome young man started abusing meth, even more, lost his house and became homeless.
His choices in life lead him to a path that going back from it is near impossible. The more the time has passed, the more he hated himself.
Matthew's mental state started deteriorating. Methamphetamine makes you extremely aggressive, and on January he found himself having a 4 hour standoff with the police!
After injecting meth into himself, filled with rage he told the police he did not sleep for over 3 days. The police tased him and took him to a hospital to get treatments.
When he was released from jail following the event of the standoff, sadly, he did something quite mad!
He was accounted for attacking a lady, so the police came to the arrest him. Officers discovered he had damaged three cars before hopping on the police car.
He was inevitably captured for breaking cars, licking a man's face, and endeavoring to bite a cop. He was arrested 16 times in just under 5 years!
With expectations of helping Medlin, the judge sentenced him to 60 days in prison, three years of probation, and 120 days of both drug and mental rehab.
We hope the next time we do a follow-up story about Medlin, it will be after he is back to his former self, all clean and happy, as far away as possible from his life of crime and meth abuse.
